Patricia O'Neill was born in South Wales, and educated at Cardiff University, Royal College of Music, The Welsh National Opera Training scheme, and The National Opera Studio in London.


Young Welsh Singers' Competition; Peter Stuyvesant Scholarship; Prize winner at the 'Bel Canto Concurs' in Belgium; Osborne Roberts Blue Ribbon; Countess of Munster Scholarship; Sir David James Scholarship; Finalist in The Kathleen Ferrier Competition. Best Female Singer R.C.M.

 Opera and Singing Career:

 Gilda in 'Rigoletto ENO

 Glyndebourne Opera Chorus; 'Dalinda' in  Ariodante for Handel Opera Company. 1980. Joined the English National Opera as Principal Soprano, singing Mimi' La Boheme'; Gilda (Rigoletto) ; Zerlina(Don Giovanni) All three heroines in 'The Adventures of Mr. Broucek; Euridice (Orfeo); Title Role in Patience; Xenia (Boris Godonov) and Marzelline in Fidelio. Toured with E.N.O. to America, singing Gilda in New Orleans, and Patience at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York.

 Mimi in 'La Boheme' ENO

Scottish Opera:Adina (L'Elisir D'Amore); Amor (L'Egisto); Bella (Midsummer Marriage/ Tippett); Toured with the company to Germany and Venice.

Bella in Tippet's  Midsummer Marriage Thames Television

Doyle Carte:Mabel in Pirates of Penzance, on tour and at the Savoy Theatre in London.

Opera North:Bella in the Midsummer Marrage' Tippett.

Thames Television:'Bella in the film version of 'The Midsummer Marriage'

Flanders Opera Belgium: Mimi in' La Boheme' at Antwerp and Ghent.

Concert & Recitals at the Purcell Room, Festival Hall, Albert Hall, Barbican, in London, St.David's Hall Cardiff, Brangwyn Hall, Swansea, and abroad in Israel and Belgium, with all major orchestras. Concert Performance of 'Medea' at the Barbican with Grace Bumbry.

Regular broadcasts on Welsh Television & Radio;. B.B.C. S4C and H.T.V.

Radio 3 Lieder Recitals; Radio2 'Friday Night is Music Night'.


Vocal Tutor & Consultant:

Patrica has been a Vocal tutor for over 25 years, working with students throughout Wales at all levels. She was also a tutor at Cardiff University, and currently teaches at Howells School Llandaff.

She has been Vocal Consultant on several programmes on S4C including 'Datganiad'

The Opera 'The Little Sweep'(Britten). And 'Cerdd Y Cymry'



Patricia is the Producerof 'Andrew O'Neill Cabaret Awards' and 'Can You Sing?'Singing competitions,and Opera courses.,

She was awarded 'Woman of the Year'2008 by the Porthcawl & District Council for her work on 'Can You Sing',

 And an Award for Contribution to Music in the Area, in 2009


In 2009Patricia produced 'Can You Sing' again with the Final at the Riverfront Theatre in Newport.

In thesummer of 2009she was aTutor on the Summer Opera Course in Carmona in Spain.

In theSummer of 2010, she ran an International Opera Summer School in Porthcawl, with an International staff, with singers from all over Europe.

In Summer of 2011,she adjudicated at the Urdd National Eisteddfod, and once again directed the Summer Opera Course .

2011 also saw the introduction a new Course for Opera Conducting ,led by International Swiss Conductor, Emmanuel Siffert ,and the Welsh Concert Orchestra, with young conductors from all over the world.

Patricia will continued the courses in 2012.

She was appointed   Director of the Saturday Opera  Academy at the Wales International Academy of Voice in 2012

She has recently given an interview for the Forte Magazine, London College of Music.

2013 saw a brief return to the stage with the Welsh Concert orchestra,conducted by Emmanuel Siffert

The Saturday Academy was expanded in 2014, to include a Youth Opera Course, with concerts in the Summer of 2014.

In August 2014 , Patricia will again adjudicate at the National Eisteddfod of Wales
